They need to design fights with different mechanics for melee and ranged, but they consistently either give melee the same mechanics as ranged or just have melee get no mechanics, neither of which is ideal. This is one of the most melee friendly tiers they've had in years and it's still skewed. Blizzard keeps saying they know this is a problem, and yet continually tier after tier they release bosses that are melee-hostile. Survival could print out a five dollar bill every time you kill a boss and it would still be the wrong choice, because it's against two ranged specs, and that's that. There are 150 Survival hunters to 4000 BM hunters even though all three hunter specs are underperforming to a pretty comparable degree, especially accounting for "better players play the better spec" favoritism that would push Survival lower. And there are more Boomkins than all three Rogues combined, despite all three Rogues taking up the top slots. Like, if we look at 95% Guardian parses, we can see that even though Feral is the 4th best spec, it has a tenth of the parses of Boomkin. Rogue also suffers to a lesser degree since it has no specific raid utility that wedges it into a raid comp. Even when they do the most damage on paper, they're still simply the wrong choice against their ranged alternatives. Survival, Enhancement, and Feral are all in the same boat. It's a victim of a core Blizzard design issue, which is that (mainly in raids, but sometimes elsewhere) ranged is just better than melee. figured id reach out to reddit since this and the wow forums tend to be different communities. i posted this on the WoW forum and was met with mostly people just saying survival is stupid and that it should be removed, frankly there was no good discussion.
